Event Description

Ryan Dowd
Chief Empathy Officer at Homeless Training Institute

Ryan has spent most of his career running a large homeless shelter outside of Chicago, Illinois. In addition, he trains organizations around the world how to compassionately manage problematic behavior from troubled individuals. He is a licensed attorney and author of the American Library Association book, "The Librarian's Guide to Homelessness." Ryan is ecstatically married (Krissie) with two fantastic children (Cameron and Hailey).

Some of the issues covered:

  • Is there a specific patron that you are unsure how to handle and would like guidance?
  • Did you have a situation with a homeless patron and you're not sure whether or not you dealt with it correctly?
  • Do you have specific questions about people experiencing homelessness, poverty, mental illness, or substance abuse?
  • Do you have a coworker who struggles when dealing with challenging patrons and want to know how to help him/her?
