Implicit Bias: Me? Biased? How Biology and Psychology Affect Our Opinions and Actions
Description: So much of the practice of law involves decision-making, and convincing others to make better decisions based upon fact rather than emotion. This course is intended to guide the attendees to appreciate how they involuntarily make decisions and guide them to recognize and prevent bias, and to know how to effectively communicate with persons whose bias affects others.
Speaker: Claude E. Ducloux
Bio: Claude E. Ducloux is licensed in Texas, California and Colorado. He is Past-president of the Austin Bar Association, is Board Certified in Civil Trial Law and Civil Appellate Law. He has served as Chair of almost every Texas Bar-related entity, including the Board of Legal Specialization, the Texas Bar College, the Texas Bar Foundation and the Texas Center for Legal Ethics. Claude has given more than 600 CLE speeches around the country – just in the past 5 years. He is a past recipient of the Gene Cavin Award (CLE), The Lola Wright Foundation Award (Legal Ethics), College of the State Bar Professionalism Award, Luke Soules Award (Litigation), and W. Frank Newton Award (Pro Bono). He is serving his second 3-year appointment by the Supreme Court of Texas Supreme Court Disciplinary Rules & Referenda Committee.
