COVID-19: CARES Act Resources for Associations and Legal Strategies for Association Meetings
Thursday, April 23, 2020
1:00 – 2:00 pm CT

One CAE credit.  Space is limited.

Part I: In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Congress recently passed the CARES Act, a $2.2 trillion bill that provides economic relief for individuals, small businesses, corporations, hospitals, state and local governments, and nonprofit organizations, among others. Some of the financial relief provided for nonprofits in the Act is more beneficial than others, and not all of the relief is available to all types of nonprofits. Learn which relief programs are available for which types of associations, and everything else you need to know about qualifying and applying for, and complying with, the new programs.

Part II: Due to the unforeseen and devastating effects of the rapidly spreading COVID-19 pandemic, associations are facing incredibly tough decisions right now regarding upcoming and long-scheduled conferences and meetings. Even for those associations with meetings slated for the next few months, while some do not believe it is realistic that those events will be able to move forward as planned, the game of “chicken” being played with hotels, convention centers, meeting vendors, and event cancellation insurance carriers is a high-stakes one with potentially crippling adverse financial consequences for many associations. Learn the most up-to-date strategies for crafting and executing the most effective strategies for your association.

Presenter: Jeff Tenenbaum is one of the nation’s leading association attorneys, and is an accomplished author, lecturer, and commentator on association legal matters. Jeff counsels his clients on the broad array of legal issues affecting trade and professional associations and other nonprofit organizations, and regularly represents clients before Congress, federal and state regulatory agencies, and in connection with governmental and internal investigations, enforcement actions, litigation, and in dealing with the media. Among numerous other honors and awards, he was the 2006 recipient of the American Bar Association’s Outstanding Nonprofit Lawyer of the Year Award and is one of only five lawyers in the U.S. Legal 500 Not-for-Profit “Hall of Fame.” Jeff is the author of the ASAE-published Association Tax Compliance Guide. Learn more.
