Event Description

NEPPA's Metering I Program will be held March 26 - 27,2024, at the NEPPA Training Center (200 New Estate Road, Littleton, MA 01460).

NEPPA's Metering I Program is designed to be an introduction to the fundamentals of meter equipment and safety.  The Program will introduce how meters are used as an integral part of the distribution system and why their accurate and efficient readings are critical to a utility's success.

Upon successful completion of the Program, students are awarded a Certificate of Completion.

 

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

This course is designed for:

  • New or Transitioning Meter Technicians
  • Lineworkers
  • Supervisors or Managers transitioning from other departments
     

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of the program, participants will be able to successfully:

  1. Demonstrate a foundational/introductory knowledge of meter use, demand and digital vs. analog meters.
  2. Practice hands-on safe installation and removal of a meter.
  3. Calculate and demonstrate the safe measurement of electricity.
  4. Recognize meter theft, revenue protection controls, and how to safely install service and conduct inspections.
  5. Demonstrate a basic understanding of net metering, demand metering and reverse metering.
  6. Accurately identify faulty equipment and troubleshoot solutions.
     

COURSE PREREQUISITES

Students are expected to take NEPPA’s Basic Electricity and Mathematics for Utility Operations course, and/or demonstrate a solid understanding of basic electricity concepts, theory and mathematics through prequalification testing.
