Presentation Title: Fostering Social and Emotional Learning Through Technology
Social emotional learning technology helps teachers integrate SEL into classrooms in ways that are meaningful and measurable. So where do technology and social-emotional learning overlap? This session will address how tech can strengthen social and emotional learning, and lead to greater academic achievement, as well as career and life success.
Presenters
Akira has expertise in the areas of social-emotional learning and trauma-informed work, drawing from her experiences in the classroom and her scholarship in education and child developmental research. She has also developed research-based resources and curricula for other educators, children, and families.
Currently, Akira is also a doctoral student in the Clinical Science in Child & Adolescent Psychology program at Florida International University, where she is expanding on her clinical training and investigating the role of adverse childhood experiences as it relates to social-emotional learning, behavior, and school readiness.
Dr. Comer is a Professor of Psychology and Psychiatry at Florida International University, where he directs the Mental Health Interventions and Technology (MINT) Program, an interdisciplinary clinical research program devoted to expanding the quality, scope and accessibility of mental health care. He is Immediate Past President of the Society of Clinical Psychology, and a Fellow of the American Psychological Association.
David Lockett is a STEM Teacher for Bok Academy in the Lake Wales Charter School District in Lake Wales, Florida. He is an Apple Teacher, Certified Microsoft Innovative Educator, NASA Solar System Ambassador, and a Tynker Blue Ribbon Educator. David holds the honor of receiving a Congressional STEM Accommodation from US. Rep. Dr. Scott Des Jarlais, and was recently named a 2020-21 Albert Einstein Fellow sponsored by the NASA Office of STEM Engagement.
