Designing the Perfect Ingestion: The Kislak Collection at University of Miami
Regional Conference.
July 30, 2020
In 2017, the Jay I. Kislak Foundation, University of Miami (UM) and Miami Dade College jointly announced an important donation which, along with the collection that Jay Kislak donated to the Library of Congress back in 2004, is considered one of the finest collections of its kind in the world. The gift, representing a combined valuation of approximately $30 million, includes more than 2,300 rare books, maps, manuscripts, pre-Columbian artifacts and other materials.
UM panelists will share their experience from the moment this contract was signed until the collection was safely hosted at UM, discoverable through our catalog, and accessible to the public. Panelists will also share how this donation has changed the spaces of UM Libraries, modified workflows, intensified relationships between UM and MDC, created new positions, and generated new projects to come. Attendees will learn best practices on how to manage the intake of a collection of this magnitude.
