The library is one of the last free public spaces that is open to all. However, often those considered “undesirable” are kept away from the library in order to make others feel welcome and safe. While we do sometimes see problematic behaviours in the library, this does not mean that we cannot strive to ensure that we as library workers provide excellent customer service to all who enter the library.

You will gain:

1) Skills to make all patron interactions successful;
2) The importance of setting personal/professional boundaries with patrons; and
3) Practice of self care to avoid professional burnout.

About the presenters:

Caroline Moynihan: Online Services Librarian at Lethbridge Public Library, Lethbridge Alberta. Received her MLIS at Western University in August of 2016, and has worked for both the Burlington Public Library, and Calgary Public Library prior to her current role.

Jonathan Jarvie: Resource Sharing Librarian at Lethbridge Public Library, Lethbridge, Alberta. Received his MLIS at The University of Alberta in the Spring of 2019.
