Cataloging Sound Recordings Webinar
February 12, 2020

In this 2 hour session, we’ll cover the basics of cataloging sound recordings with a focus on music resources (CDs, LPs, streaming MP3s) and audio books (podcasts, oral histories, audio books) including how to identify these resources and what information to record for these types of resources! This class focuses on practical tips and analysis of MARC records and Dublin Core records. Through exploration of examples, attendees will gain practical exposure to the fundamentals of RDA cataloging and insights into LCSH subject analysis for these type of resources. Upon completion of the class and exercises, attendees should be able to identify elements for recording in a record of their specific format and apply those to their specific metadata framework (MARC, DublinCore, etc.)  No A/V or sound cataloging experience is necessary but familiarity with MARC may be useful.
Resources: Curated sound and A/V cataloging resources, presentation materials, and exercises will be available after class.

Audience: All library staff who work with or are interested in sound recording cataloging in general, in their ILS/OCLC, institutional repository, or digital archives, as well as those who are interested in the role of metadata in systems
