Description:

Topic: VICTIM TRAINING: Children and adults with disabilities are particularly vulnerable to become victims of sexual abuse or assault. Research has demonstrated that person with disabilities are more likely to be victims of abuse than non-disabled persons, their perpetrators are often individuals in a caregiving role, and support after victimization is often nonexistent or inadequate. Severe behavior problems in both men and women with developmental disabilities have been found to be often associated with traumatic sexual abuse. The prevalence and implications of abuse and issues related to prevention will be discussed in this session.
