This presentation will discuss the complexities and ceofusions in the field of dual diagnosis in the United Kingdom. This will lead to the exploration of the definition of need and the processes involved in the assessment of needs using the Cardinal Needs Schedule. The three stages of the Cardinal Needs Schedule will be discussed with examples from practice settings. This presentation will further describe the method of this research which will include the participants, issues of consent, data collection and analysis. A total of 35 adults were interviewed during the Learning Disability Version of the Cardinal Needs Schedule. Needs assessment and the implications of this research for future practices with people with dual diagnosis will also be discussed.
