About the Editors

Editor-in-Chief: Kathleen C. Niedert, PhD, MBA, RD, CSG, LD, FADA, NHA. Dr. Niedert has more than 35 years-experience as a registered dietitian in food service and senior living facilities and is a licensed nursing home administrator.  In 2012, Dr. Niedert received the Marjorie Hulsizer Copher Award – the highest honor that The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics confers upon a member.  Among other accomplishments, she helped initiate the certification for the Practice of Certified Specialists in Gerontological Nutrition, served as chair of the Consultant Dietitians in Health Care Facilities practice group, and served as The Academy’s representative to the Joint Commission’s Professional Technical Advisory Committee in Long Term Care.


Editor: Marla P. Carlson, BS.   For nearly 20 years, Ms. Carlson has served as the Executive Director of Dietetics in Health Care Communities (DHCC), a dietetic practice group of The Academy.  She is a co-author of the 2011 American Dietetic Association: Standards of Practice and Standards of Professional Performance for Registered Dietitians (Competent, Proficient, and Expert) in Extended Care Settings.
