Introduction to Audio Preservation

Audio formats like lacquer discs and cassette tapes represent unique resources within our collections and have the power to bring history to life through sound. Understanding the history and range of audio formats allows professionals to meet the unique challenges presented by them. This webinar will provide an introduction to audio formats and practices for their care in libraries so that participants can begin prioritizing and preserving these physical media. Basic description, safe handling, and planning for proper storage and reformatting will be discussed.

Bio: As a Preservation Specialist for the Northeast Document Conservation Center (NEDCC) Sean has a background in providing preservation and emergency preparedness information and outreach, including assessments, consultations, training programs, and disaster assistance. He also He also served as NEDCC’s Performing Arts Readiness Emergency Preparedness Consultant in New England, providing free consultations and trainings to performing arts organizations in emergency preparedness from July 2018-June 2019 . Sean earned his MLIS from Simmons University School of Library and Information Science.
