Nearly 100 Maine physicians stormed the Capitol for
Physicians' Day at the Maine Legislature on March 13th
The biennial event, co-hosted by the Maine Osteopathic Association and the Maine Medical Association was well attended this year. The day started out with casual networking in the hall of flags with Legislators. MOA President Merideth Norris, D.O. shared remarks on the importance of relying on evidence to support medical decisions as well as bills that will affect the future of Maine. UNECOM Medical Students sacrificed a day of their Spring Break to join in the fun and enjoy tea with Governor Mills at the Blaine House.

Also on Wednesday, hundreds of people gathered to testify on two vaccine bills (LD798/LD871). Over 13 hours of testimony was heard by the committee on Education & Cultural Affairs. 13 hours! (1pm Wed.-2am Thurs.) At least 5 committee rooms were full of concerned citizens. As remarked one of the committee members "This is what democracy looks like." Regardless of the outcome of these pieces of legislation, this was surely an impressive showing.
