Saroj Ghoting is an Early Childhood Literacy Consultant and national trainer on early literacy. She presents early literacy training and information sessions at national, regional, and state conferences, and training for library staff and their partners. She has been a consultant for the Public Library Association and the Association for Library Service to Children of the American Library Association on the Every Child Ready to Read @ your library® early literacy initiative.
She is a co-author of Early Literacy Storytimes @ your library: Partnering with Caregivers for Success which applies the information from the Every Child Ready to Read @ your library workshops to the storytime setting, The Early Literacy Kit: A Handbook and Tip Cards from ALA Editions which offers information on the school readiness domains to convey to parents and caregivers in a storytime setting, Storytimes for Everyone! Developing Young Children's Language and Literacy, which applies the updated research and approach of the second edition of Every Child Ready to Read® including supporting scientific and mathematical thinking to storytimes, and STEP into Storytime: Using StoryTime Effective Practice to Strengthen the Development of Newborns to Five-Year-Olds and includes information on presenting storytimes for mixed-age groups, when newborn to five-year-olds are in the same storytime. Time for a Story: Sharing Books with Infants and Toddlers was recently published by Gryphon House focusing on those working in a child care setting.
Her most recent book is Supercharged Storytimes: An Early Literacy Planning and Assessment Guide co-authored with the researchers from the VIEWS2 project at the University of Washington. It offers research-based tools and techniques to help storytime presenters intentionally and joyfully incorporate early literacy in storytimes. Saroj enjoys learning new ideas while presenting trainings on early literacy.
Elaine Czarnecki is a literacy consultant specializing in early literacy and evaluation. She has provided consulting, professional development, and evaluation services for a variety of initiatives across the country since first beginning her work with public libraries in 2001. Her current projects include the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) funded Cruise into Kindergarten initiative in Pennsylvania, and the Harford County, Maryland Innovation Lab evaluation study. Elaine is the co-author of Every Child Ready for School: Helping Adults Inspire Young Children to Learn, published by ALA Editions, Tender Topics: Picture Books about Childhood Challenges, published by Huron Street Press, an imprint of the American Library Association, and the new Every Child Ready to Read Toolkit for Serving Early Childhood Educators.
