Library Vendors and Patron Privacy: Strategies in Keeping Privacy Intact While Using Third Party Products and Services

Keeping on top of library data privacy is hard work with keeping track of all the moving parts inside the library. When you add vendors into the mix, it's not hard to become overwhelmed. This interactive webinar will help libraries working with vendors in ensuring that their patrons' privacy remains intact while using vendor services and products. Learn strategies and best practices in the procurement and contract negotiation processes, as well as how vendors play a role in the library data lifecycle and where the risks to patron privacy can appear. We will also cover best practices for data sharing with other third parties, such as school districts for library card programs and city departments for open data initiatives or for city operations.

Becky Yoose is the founder and Library Data Privacy Consultant for LDH Consulting Services, a consultancy that guides libraries and vendors in protecting patron data without sacrificing operational data needs. For over a decade, Becky has wrangled various forms in academic and public libraries. Becky received her MA-LIS from University of Wisconsin - Madison in 2008, and has been a Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPP/US) with the International Association of Privacy Professionals since 2018.
