Event Description

Nurses Collaborate to Create an Innovative Transplant Program

Speakers:

Shelly Dean, MSN, RN, CNL, CPNP-PC

Suzanne Queheillalt, MSN, RN, ACNS-BC, CCTN

During this webinar you will learn about the development of a collaborative transplant program between two centers and the essential role nursing played in this process.  Goals of the program are to eliminate “access to care” barriers and to build world-class expertise in pediatric liver transplantation. Through a collaborative effort between two transplant centers and with collaboration from nursing, pediatric liver transplant recipients previously going out of state to receive care are now able to receive transplants in state.  Nursing was able to create policies, procedures, and formal education for staff to ensure the success of the program.

Learning Objectives:

  • Discuss the components of developing a collaborative pediatric liver transplant program and the role nursing took in this process
  • Identify outcomes specific to nursing related to the collaborative process
  • Discuss future implications for nursing relevant to enhancing both the collaborative relationship and improving pediatric transplant nursing
