Event Description

NASW Virginia and Metro DC Personality Systems Workshop Fall Series 2021

Worshop 1 - Introduction to Personality Type Theory

You are invited to come explore NASW Virginia and Metro DC's fall series on various Personality Systems! The first workshop is on Personality Type Theory, followed by a workshop on Temperament Theory, concluding with a third workshop on the Enneagram. Each workshop will be offered on an introductory level. While each workshop will be taught as a stand-alone training, it will benefit the participant to attend all three workshops in order to understand the interconnection between these dynamic systems.

The MBTI and the Keirsey are naturally complementary, but when combined with the Enneagram, it maximizes the potential for all three tools, for both personal and clinical application. The clinical application of these three systems can enhance a client’s self-knowledge, communication skills and relationship skills. For clinicians, these instruments can also provide a deeper self-knowledge, thereby enhancing the clinician’s use of self in their clinical work. The workshops also promote social work values of honoring the dignity of the individual, and celebrating both the diversity and unity of the human family.

Workshop 1 - Introduction to Personality Type Theory - October 8

The first workshop will focus on Personality Type Theory, with an introductory explanation of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator. The MBTI is based on the ground breaking work of Carl Jung and describes natural preferences human beings have in terms of processing information and provides a description of cognitive processes. The MBTI is a wonderful addition to any clinician’s toolkit!

Learning Objectives for Introduction to Personality Type Theory:

1. The participant will learn an overview and basic theoretical underpinnings of the MBTI.

2. The participant will learn about the potential application of the MBTI in clinical situations, such as individual, couple and parent-child therapy.

3. The participant will learn how the MBTI can be used to promote deeper self-knowledge and use of self in the therapeutic relationship.

The format of this training will include both didactic and experiential components, for a total of 3 hours.

Attendees will earn 3 Category I Contact Hours.
