Establishing LGBTQ-Affirming Social Work Practices: A Culturally-Sensitive Approach
Abstract:
This program is intended to help social workers who do not work primarily with Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ+) clients to better understand how historical influences of power, privilege and culture can impact counseling and other social service efforts delivered to members of this often marginalized and vulnerable community. Participants will gain knowledge of LGBTQ+ historical and political perspectives, the development of LGBTQ identity-formation, health, mental health, workplace and familial concerns,and other issues affecting LGBTQ+ individuals across their life-span, including human sexuality, spirituality, aging, racism, the coming-out process and disenfranchised grief.
Attendees will earn 3.0 Category I Contact Hours, including 3.0 LGBTQ CEs (for DC Social Workers).

LOCATION:
This will be a virtual training. Registrants will be sent an online link the day prior to the training.
Please plan to login by 12:30 pm. The training begins at 12:45 pm and ends at 4:00 pm.

If a registrant cancels more than 10 days before the event, a refund will be issued by check or credit back to your credit card, minus a 10% administrative fee.
If cancelation occurs less than 10 days prior to the event, no refund will be issued but you may request a credit towards a future training to be used within 1 year of the cancelation date. Call the Chapter Office (804-204-1339) to cancel within 10 days of the training. A request for credit may be granted at the discretion of the Executive Director in case of a documented emergency.
