Join the PEAK Grantmaking New England Regional Chapter for a full-day of learning and networking with ​grants management colleagues from across the region at our Fall 2019 meeting! Topics will include developing your leadership skills through managing up, learning more about what fiscal sponsorship is and how you can fund fiscally sponsored projects, and an informal technology show-and-tell. If you have a favorite app or technology tool, please come prepared to share it with the group!

10:15 am – 12:00 pm     The Art and Science of Managing Up for Grantmakers

  • Presenter:  Elly Davis, Programs and Knowledge Manager, PEAK Grantmaking

Grantmaking professionals are often on the frontlines of foundation work, actively implementing the strategies conceived at higher levels of the organization. They are also often the foundation employees with the most specialized knowledge, experience and skills needed to improve grantmaking strategy and practice, but with the least power to influence decisions.

The practice of “managing up” – actively and methodically developing a good working relationship with higher ups to obtain the best possible results for you, your boss and your organization – has been shown to increase job satisfaction, improve performance and fast-track career advancement. By extension, it can also accelerate organizational change.

Attend this workshop on managing up to:

  • Learn about the key elements and potential benefits of managing;
  • Identify first steps toward successfully managing up within your own organization; and
  • Explore how you can improve your grantmaking practice through managing up.
