Webinar Summary
Since 2018, Alexandria Renew Enterprises (AlexRenew) has been implementing a historic environmental initiative to prevent millions of gallons of combined sewage from polluting Alexandria, VA’s waterways each year. The initiative is branded RiverRenew, one of the most expedited combined sewer overflow programs in the United States and the largest infrastructure project in the history of Alexandria. Learn how AlexRenew has partnered with the community from concept to construction to establish trust, create goodwill, and instill a lasting positive legacy for this momentous program. Discussion will focus on community outreach strategies used to gain public feedback, rates education initiatives, and approaches to minimize construction impacts.
About the Presenter
Karen Pallansch, P.E., BCEE, has been the General Manager/Chief Executive Officer for Alexandria Renew Enterprises (AlexRenew) for over 15 years. She is leading a $615M program to remediate Alexandria's combined sewer outfalls by July 1, 2025.
She has degrees in Chemical Engineering and Business Management, is a Registered Engineer in Virginia, holds a Virginia Class I Wastewater License, is a Board-Certified Environmental Engineer and has received numerous awards from WEF, NACWA, the AAEES, and others.
Karen serves on boards such as the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, international NGO ROCKBlue and is currently Treasurer of the WateReuse Association.

This will be an interactive session with "live chat" capability. The session is open to environmental engineering and science professionals across all sectors and career stages.
