The American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists (AAEES) is dedicated to excellence in the practice of environmental engineering to ensure the public health safety and welfare. This year, the United States is experiencing one of the wettest winters on record, and Los Angeles just experienced the coldest February since 1877. From 2012 through 2016, California experienced a severe drought. In 2018, the Western United States battled wildfires in numbers and sizes never before seen. These extreme events are believed by experts to be the consequences of climate change. Is Southern California prepared for these changes? Come find out how climate change impacts might affect our infrastructure and what agency leaders are doing to prepare.

Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board Member Jim Stahl will tee up the discussion with a brief summary of adaptation priorities. Executive Director Steve Weisberg will relate impacts to decisions that water quality managers will be faced with in developing their response strategies. Chief Engineer and GM Robert Ferrante will discuss the Sanitation Districts' efforts towards determining what should be done to prepare for and protect valuable assets and facilities. Assistant General Manager Robert Thompson will discuss OCSD's climate resiliency and adaptation planning. Chief Operating Officer Traci Minamide will discuss the City of Los Angeles' resiliency plan for 100% recycled water. Public Affairs Manager Mike McNutt will present a case study on the impacts from the Woolsey fire on the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District and lessons learned.
