Actively licensed attorneys who leave private practice to join other organizations can positively impact their new roles through their legal experience, bringing new perspectives and extensive technical training.  Their legal backgrounds also carry concealed hazards for the lawyer and organization.  This session, through case studies based on real situations, walks us through some of these challenges, offering guidance and insights.

  • Identify common risk scenarios facing non-practicing licensed professionals
  • Identify main legal rules applicable to the common risk scenarios:
    • Attorney-Client Privilege
    • Duty of Confidentiality
    • Non-licensed practice of law

About the Presenter

 

Judson (Jud) Leibee

Mr. Leibee brings over 20 years of experience corporate governance with emphasis on financial and accounting management, both as a professional (CPA, Real Estate Broker and Attorney), as well as executive (CFO and interim CEO, and President) of various companies.  Jud has spoken on, and published articles relating to construction and real estate development matters from a financial, operational and legal perspective.  Jud currently serves as the Chief Financial Officer for Step Up on Second Street, Inc. a California non-profit focused on permanent supportive housing for the most at-risk population. Mr. Leibee also manages the business advisory and real estate ventures, including entitlement, legal, accounting, and financing, for Judson Charles Inc, which focusses on mission-based projects that "elevate standards of living locally and globally".  Jud is a graduate of the University of Colorado Leeds, school of Business, and obtained his law degree from the University of Denver College of Law.

Who Should Attend? Attorneys, CPAs, Business Professionals

AAA-CPA continuing education programs are designed to meet the needs of Attorneys and CPAs and to qualify for credit both as CPE and CLE. Of course, the decisions of various state authorities determine the actual credit granted. There are no prerequisites or advance preparation requirements for this course. 

 

The American Academy of Attorney-Certified Public Accountants, Inc. (AAA-CPA) is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. State boards of accountancy have final authority on the acceptance of individual courses for CPE credit. Complaints regarding registered sponsors may be submitted to the National Registry of CPE Sponsors through its website: www.nasba.org

 

*(M)CLE varies by state. Though we are accredited for (M)CLE in PA they will not accept webinars  for credit. If you require (M)CLE in a specific state, please send a request to info@attorney-cpa.com  prior to the program date and we will do our best to arrange for credit. Please note that most state bars will accept our Certificates of Attendance sent in by the attorney and NOT charge a fee. A general Certificate of Attendance will be made available for those professionals who feel the program satisfies their continuing education requirements and are able to self-file.
