Event Description

A Forum for Library Leaders

The term civility embodies many universally-shared positive behaviors, yet challenges of incivility face us daily.  As centers of service to our public and academic “communities,” libraries are uniquely poised to lead positive initiatives to promote civility.  This forum explores definitions of civility, causes and consequences of our struggles with incivility, “best practices” for promoting civility in our libraries and greater communities and how library leaders can build the momentum.

The Libraries as Civility Leaders forum will begin with an inspiring presentation by an award-winning author and civility leader, followed by small-group discussion and sharing of ways to advance civility initiatives as library leaders.  This forum is designed for library directors, deans, department heads, managers, and others in library leadership roles.  It is the first forum of a new series of “Outside the Box” events for library leaders to consider differing perspectives from experts outside of the library world, and promote innovative thinking and creative solutions to conventional barriers.

Location:  Palm Beach County Library System, Main Library, 3650 Summit Blvd, West Palm Beach, FL 33406

This training event is limited to staff of Florida libraries.
