Event Description

Fake it 'til You Make it: Leadership for Beginners
6/20/2019
2:00pm - 3:00pm

About this Session:
Have you ever come across a job posting and thought, "I'm not experienced enough to apply." Or maybe you haven't put your name forward to work on a project because, "surely they have someone with more skills than me!" Leadership in the library is really just stepping up and taking on the responsibility to serve your staff and patrons.  So, regardless of experience, a good leader is usually someone who is suited for the job because of who they are, rather than what courses they’ve taken. In this webinar you'll learn how to lead when you're still learning how.   You’ll also learn tips for running a library, project, or program when you're not sure if you know what you're doing!

Participants will come away with:
-Confidence to volunteer (or not) for leadership roles
-An assessment of your strengths
-Tips for how to handle leadership situations

About the Presenter:
Saara Itkonen is the Chief Librarian of Creston Public Library in Creston, BC. Saara is a former Children's Librarian and Branch Head at Vancouver Public Library.  Outside of the library Saara’s time is taken up with parenting her 3 year old daughter.
