Event Description

Join ASTHO, national partners, and state leaders by addressing brain health, Alzheimer’s, and other dementias. As of 2018, 5.7 million Americans have Alzheimer's disease and by 2060 this number is expected to grow to 14 million. Dementias, including Alzheimer’s, affect people’s cognitive and physical abilities. Those declines require support from paid or unpaid caregivers as the disease progresses. These conditions can affect both older adults’ and caregivers’ cognitive health, independence, and quality of life.

The ASTHOConnects Series on Brain Health is designed to inform state and territorial health officials and their staff about the critical role of public health in supporting aging adults. The series will focus on the Healthy Brain Initiative (HBI) State and Local Public Health Partnerships to Address Dementia, The 2018 -2023 Road Map and explore other supporting frameworks to for state and territorial public health. Each session will present unique perspectives, while building on information covered in previous sessions.

Engage with experts from the national and state level about specific ways to incorporate brain health, Alzheimer’s disease, and caregiving content into programs in your jurisdiction. Tools, examples, and practical tips will be provided. Speakers will be ready to answer questions you submit in advance. The information provided will move efforts toward action in your jurisdiction.
