ASTHO engaged the Puerto Rico Department of Health and the U.S. Virgin Islands Department of health by providing technical assistance and capacity building to improve business processes. Each agency selected three key business processes including procurement, payment processing, travel, recruitment, and expenditure review, unique to their needs in enhancing improvements to spend down federal funds effectively and efficiently. At this session, speakers from each agency will share their journey, best practices, lessons learned, and recommendations. The lessons learned in the U.S. Atlantic Territories are applicable to every jurisdiction and can help better prepare participants for future funding that addresses public health emergencies. A forum discussion with participants and subject matter experts will follow the presentations.
